Teen guy fitness help, help me please?

I am 15, and a guy. I play indoor soccer 3 days every week, and I will also have a sports training class at school. I can only workout at home, I am not able to run at all due to the weather. At home, I have a variety of dumbbells, and space to workoiut. I need to lsoe 10 pounds at the most, this fat is in my love handles, and belly, I do look slim with clothes on, I jsut want to tone up and reveal my abs, so, can you please give me workouts to do at home, with or without dumbbells? And soccer is my good cardio 3 days a week. MMy huge problem is eating right, I like to eat a lot, and quite a few bad things, how can i get past that? Thanks!

Editor answers:

Eat healthier and more times but in less amounts… And maybe go to the gym…I play soccer too man and just keep playing…. Maybe look it up home exercises on youtube too..

Richard asks…

Is this a good gym routine?

My college’s gym web page recommends an indoor circuit routine that looks like this:

-Warm-up and stretch (5 minutes)
-Cardio (12 minutes of 3-3-3-3)
Bike, Treadmill, Elliptical, Stepper
-Weights (15-20 minutes of 15 reps each)
Do as a circuit (pin select) with little to no rest between stations
Work the entire body.
-Cardio (12 minutes of 3-3-3-3)
Bike, Treadmill, Elliptical, Stepper
-Cool-down and stretch (5 minutes)

I’m hoping to lose some weight as well as “tone”, is this a sensible workout that will give me results?
(my stats, if it helps: 19, female, 5’7″, 147lbs)

Thanks!

Editor answers:

That is wonderful!

You should burn around 1000-1200 calories in that exercise plan alone!

If you are looking to tone, as well, then I suggest you do situps (around 75), pushups (around 25), pull ups (as many as you can do) leg lifts (around 85 without weights, 35 with weights) and splits exercises. You should be in great shape afterwords :) (Also, make sure you are taking in only around 1500-1700 calories a day. If you get dizzy, take in around 2000.)

Good luck :)

Indoor Cardio Workouts

Charles asks…

Whats a good indoor cardio workout?

Can’t really go running because of the damn heatwave.

Editor answers:

If you can, invest in an ellliptical. It’s a great way of getting the benefits of intense cardio such as running, without worrying about the impact running will have over time on your knees and hips.

In the meantime, just try some simple throwbacks to high school gym class. Try a circuit of things like jumping jacks, mountain climbers, running in place, push-ups and squad thrusts. Go through that circuit for about half an hour and you’ll burn up a lot of calories.

Indoor cardio equipment in a small NY apartment?

I am a regular gym goer and walk 4 miles everyday (to/back from work) but since I concentrate on floor/weight training at the gym, I’m looking for some sort of cardio equipment to use when I’m home on an evening/weekend.
I’m looking into those lateral thigh trainers or a small trampoline – any other ideas for a good cardio workout?
I should add that I’m in a very tight NY apt so a treadmill/elliptical wouldnt work.
Thanks!
LTT or Trampoline??

Editor answers:

You’re not going to get a better cardio workout then jumping rope. Keep in mind you’re neighbors below you will hate your guts, but at least you’ll be healthy enough to outlive them.

Ruth asks…

What is a good cardio indoor workout?

I live in Missouri so right now its pretty cold out side or else i would do some running. What are some good cardio work outs to help burn the the fat I’m 17 and 4’11″ and i weight about 125. I dont look fat i have alot of muscle for a girl of my size but i know i also weight more than i should even with the muscle.

So my question is what are some good cardio exercises to do inside in the winter?

I dont have a tredmill or acces to one but i have a stationary bike. We also have an exercise ball (one of the big ones).

So what are some good daily work outs?

Thank you.
especially for the butt and thighs!

Editor answers:

I normally go for a walk/job outside, but when it’s raining, I do “crazy dance routine” in my room.

I have a “pump it” music playing on my i-Pod and I just dance crazy for about 50min. I’m covered in sweat and the next day I can feel it in my muscles that I’ve had good workouts.

The trick is to make sure you move as crazy as possible. Legs up, twisting body, going down slowly to the floor(great for thighs), jumping up n down… Etc etc.

Much more fun than biking for treadmill. I just make sure my door is closed so my housemate doesn’t think I’ve gone crazy!

Lisa asks…

good pregnancy workout video?

Hi, I’m 10 weeks pregnant and I’m wondering if anyone knows of a good pregnancy workout video. I had to stop playing indoor soccer (three times a week) which was my cardio. I run, and still run a little, but I’m looking for something safe for pregnancy that will keep me at least toned at the limbs while my stomach grows and grows:) I’m in pretty good shape now, so something challenging and fun.

I’ve heard that “The Perfect Pregnancy” workout video is pretty good….anyone tried it?

Editor answers:

I’ve been working out to “Walk Off the Pounds” its very basic & isn’t “challenging” but I’ve found it on days where I’m not feeling too well a life saver. Its a good basic workout for days you dont feel up to pushing yourself but still want to do something.

Susan asks…

How to decrease heart rate but still get a good workout in?

I am really out of shape, I admit it. I’m not super-big, but I can run a mile to save my life! So, I’m determined to get myself back in shape and I’ve joined a gym. I went 3 times this week, and everytime I felt really good about myself. My problem is my heart rate. Because my body isn’t used to all this activity, my heartrate skyrockets to 150-160 after 3 minutes of being on the eliptical. I’m not going that fast, I don’t understand. I really want to push myself, but I keep looking at that high # and think i am going to do damage. Last night at the gym I did 13 minutes on the eliptical, my hearrate was average 154, and then finished my cardio powerwalking around the indoor track. I just couldn’t look at the number anymore. I know it will get better as I get into better shape, but what about until then? Like I said, I want to push myself, but I’m afraid.
in the beginning of my question, I mean “can’t run a mile”…….sorry!!

Editor answers:

Firstly what ur doing is good! Very good!! So keep trying you’ll get fitter and your heartrate will lower…..and secondly that isnt a high heartrate, thats a good excercising rate, your doing ur heart a favor by getting it up high as it is strengthening it!!! Dont lower your heartrate its fine!!! And normal!!!

I excercise alot and im often trying to get mine up to 180bpm for the type of training i do…so urs is fine stop freaking out

You CAN Lose Weight! Just Follow These Tips

January 19th, 2012 No comments

Many times people who are on a diet mistakenly hide it from their friends and family. They will keep you encouraged and motivated if they know the things you want to accomplish. This will also keep them for trying to get you to consume foods or drinks that will make you gain weight.

Cardio exercise is more helpful than weight training if you are using exercise exclusively to lose weight. Cardio training is important for burning fat and losing weight, whereas weight training helps to tone and maintain muscle mass. Aerobic exercise helps you lose weight more effectively than strength conditioning does because it boosts your heart rate while also regulating your respiration.

Fight your cravings. This will require some hard work and determination from you. Instead of giving in to them, try using your will to ignore it. Giving your teeth a quick brushing may help reduce your appetite. You can also try to clean something disgusting, or watch a violent film.

Remember to make exercise a part of your weight loss plan along with diet. Losing weight means you must burn a higher number of calories every day than you take in. This can be done through exercising and limiting the amount of food you eat. Biking and jogging are no-cost, simple ways for you to burn calories, while resistance training helps build up muscle and speed up your metabolism.

To get the most savings, check out the supermarket advertisement online prior to going grocery shopping. This helps you get great deals on meat, veggies and fruits. Be sure to make a list that tells you which store offers the best deal on each item. When you get to the store, do not deviate from your list.

Try to stay off the diet bandwagon. If you are really serious about losing weight, however, you should avoid all fad diets. A fad diet that focuses on a certain set of foods may sound interesting at first, but the novelty soon wears off. They also have the disadvantage of not really teaching you healthy eating patterns that can become life long habits. It’s best go with a diet that will help you learn how to make healthy food choices.

Keep your focus on good nutrition and not fad diets. Fad diets that severely restrict your nutrition can be unsafe. The world of weight loss is constantly introducing new and improved diets that fade quickly over time. Even if these diet plans cause initial weight loss, they cannot create sustainable long-term fitness.

A long run on the beach is a great way to add intensity to running and help you with weight loss. Beach sand offers more resistance than harder surfaces.

Never skip breakfast. Many dieters don’t eat breakfast because they have the mistaken belief that it will accelerate their weight loss. The reality is that if you do not eat breakfast, you will be hungrier later on and wind up consuming more calories in the long run.

If you simply must have a desert, try a piece of angel food cake. While dessert cravings are bad for your weight loss goals, not all of them are to be avoided. Try indulging with light, airy cakes with less calories, such as angel food cake. Cakes that are less dense are generally lower in fat. Airy cakes tend to have a lower amount of calories, opposed to cakes that are more dense.

A dietitian can help guide you on your way to a more healthy way of living, as well as helping you to lose weight. They can also help you to identify your diet pitfalls. You must eat healthy food in order to lose weight.

Portion control is the number one key to losing weight successfully. Many diets focus on excessive carbohydrates or eliminating whole food groups from your diet, but the ingredients are not as important as how much you are eating. Food sizes and portions often go ignored. One of the easiest ways to improve your diet is to start reducing the size of your portions.

Do not buy into the hype of so-called “magic pills.” There really is no proof that these pills can offer you any thing other than addiction. Companies the produce weight loss pills do not give adequate information, allowing you to make wise choices, it is much better to take weight off the natural way.

If you feel good about your efforts, it is easy to stay motivated. The power to control your weight is in your hands, but you’ve got to remain motivated.

Thomas asks…

I need to lose 10 lbs Belly Fat/ 2 inches from my waist in a month?

5′2, 130…pretty fit, in the military so i exercise three times a week for an hour. I can do a lot of push-ups sit ups and have a good run time, i just have around two inches of lower ab fat i want to get rid of. live in dorms with only a microwave and i drink 60 oz of water a day….What can i do?

Editor answers:

Totally doable… 10 pounds in a month, no problem… Cardio is best, then some toning weights. Eat low fat, and reduce carbs. Increase good lean protien meats, and you’ll do great.

Lots of water daily… 64 ozs min (thats 8 cups). Bigger you are, double it.

Anyway, wishing you the best.

Mark asks…

13 Trying to lose belly fat?

Hi, I’m 13 years old, around 5′2 and weigh about 118-120 lbs. I don’t consider myself Fat, but I would just like to tone up and lose the fat around my belly. School is in about 2 weeks and I want to lose as much weight as possible and let my abs show. I’ve been dieting and doing regular cardio for a while now and there is still some stubborn fat around my waist that I’m dying to get rid of to reveal my abs. No negative answers please, Thank you.

Editor answers:

First of all, don’t do be foolish, in 2 weeks you can do nothing, so don’t put up impossible goals like that.

If you wanna shape up, take boxing lessons, you’ll be in killer-shape in no-time.

And STOP DIETING at your age that’s never a good idea.
