Great Advice If You Want To Lose Weight

April 21st, 2012 No comments

If you think about it, weight loss isn’t really that hard. You always have to be in the mindset of constant progression, so you never feel like quitting. Every activity you do, including household chores, contributes to burning calories and reaching your goal. Always remember to stay active and you will reach your weight loss goal before you know it.

Eat chunky soups to help you lose weight. Remember that it’s not smart to get your calories through liquids alone. You will see yourself getting full much faster when consuming soups with big chunks of beans and vegetables, as opposed to soups that are creamy or pureed.

Each day, be sure to eat at the exact same time. Research has shown that if you know when your next meal is scheduled for, you will be less likely to pick at foods while waiting for your next meal. Find a time frame that works for your daily routine, and stick to it.

Establish goals that are realistic. Most people begin a diet with a goal weight in mind and this gives you something to aim for. It is a great idea to have goals, but if you set the bar too high, you can become discouraged and end up quitting before you reach them. You will be setting yourself up to fail with an unrealistic goal.

To boost your chances for a healthy and successful weight loss, learn all about the type of foods that belong in the MUFA group. MUFA means monosaturated fatty acids and this can be oils, butters and nuts because they’re counted in that group. MUFA foods have been shown to not only help you lose weight, but to give you significant health benefits, as well. For best results, incorporate these MUFA-rich foods into your daily diet whenever possible.

An important key to losing weight is finding activities you truly enjoy, and doing them all the time. You’ll burn a greater number of calories at an activity that you enjoy. When you’re enjoying pleasant activities, you don’t even realize that you are actually getting in exercise and that keeps you motivated.

Use the stairs whenever possible. The stairs can assist you in losing weight very efficiently. Taking the stairs and walking from the far end of the parking lot to the store will increase the amount of calories you burn each day. Always warm up your muscles before exercising to avoid serious injuries.

You have a better chance of sticking to your diet by focusing on positive changes. Instead of thinking all the time about avoiding unhealthy breakfasts like donuts in the morning, consider going somewhere that offers fresh fruit instead. Over the course of your diet, you will find that new, healthier eating habits are much more beneficial across the board than keeping those previous habits.

Try to live free of stress. Temptation is rampant out there when it comes to eating improper foods. It’s easier to keep your eyes on the future and to stay on the right path when you are emotionally healthy.

Create a list of the healthy food you intend to buy when you grocery shop. Make sure to stick to the list and avoid impulse buying. It might also be a good idea to get into and out of the grocery store as quickly as possible. This will keep you focused on what you need, making it less likely you’ll wander off into the processed food aisles.

Top Tips To Improve Your Weight Loss Plan

If you are trying to lose weight, cardiovascular exercises need to be more of a priorty than weight training. While a certain amount of weight training is helpful for maintaining muscle tone, it is cardio training that really burns fat and helps you slim down. When losing weight, raising the rate of your heart and respiration are much more helpful as opposed to building muscle mass.

If you’re dieting, try replacing all beverages with plain water. High calorie drinks that should be avoided are; soda, juice and coffee or tea with added sugars. Water is cheap, contains no calories, is vital for your body, and even fills you up when you drink it.

Low calorie variations of all the foods you love are easily found. The next time you want pizza, ask for less cheese, or choose frozen yogurt or low-fat ice cream in place of the regular variety. You can also change to sugar-free soft drinks or light beer.

Make a commitment to get eight to ten glasses of water each day. If you fill up on water, you won’t be tempted to drink sugary soft drinks when you’re thirsty. Those sugary drinks contain lots of calories and can interfere with your weight loss success.

On your sandwiches, limit your condiments. They contain sugar and can increase the caloric content of your meals. If you really need to sue these, only put a small quantity on your food.

Make sure to stay focused on the positive efforts you can make for weight loss, not the negatives. Tell yourself that you know you can resist dessert tonight, or that you know you will eat enough veggies tomorrow. If you keep these positive thoughts in mind then you will become the person you want to be.

Chewing sugarless gum is a wonderful way to lose weight efficiently. Gum can ease your craving for sweets in an emergency. Be careful to not overindulge in this product beacause that can be unhealthy.

Watch what you eat if you want to lose extra pounds. In order to lose weight, as well to live a healthier lifestyle, we need to eat healthy and exercise regularly. You need to understand that you have to burn off more calories than you consume.

Do not give into temptation. This takes considerable willpower. Rather than giving in to sudden cravings, employ your willpower to overcome them. Brushing your teeth and gargling with mouthwash can help deter you from giving into your cravings. A good idea is cleaning something that is very filthy or watching a gory film, since that will make you lose your appetite.

Always have on hand containers of wholesome and healthy foods for snacking, so that you do not reach for high calorie snacks that resist your losing weight. A small baggy of trail mix is easy to take with you and stash virtually anywhere just for those moments of dietary weakness.

You will experience a lot of natural fluctuations in your weight. You want to think about the long term trend rather than obsessing about the day-to-day changes. You are doing a good job if you are losing weight.

You may want to consider hiring a dietician to aid you in maintaining a healthy lifestyle while losing weight. This person can help you decide on healthier options for the foods that you are eating. Eating the good stuff while avoiding the bad stuff is the secret to losing weight.

Now that you have an idea of ways to go about losing weight and getting into shape, you should feel less stressed. All you need to do to succeed is apply what you have learned. To reiterate, achieving your goals may be easier than you think if you tackle them with determination.

Jenny asks…

I am looking for a picture of the scotland football team from 1990 advertising ariel soap powder?

Proctor and Gamble used the scottish football team to adertise arial soap powder (i think in 1990 Italia 90′). In partiular Colin Hendry or any team players at that time. I have a friend who was one of the child “actors” used in the advertisements, and I want to surprise with a picture, but cant find them anywhere. Any ideas?

Editor answers:

Chris asks…

Sandra asks…

What are some funny ideas for a picture scavenger hunt for a group of teenagers?

like these:
Whole group casually sitting in a furniture store display
Your team group hugging a police officer
Team racing on kids bikes in a store
Team dressed in winter hats and scarves, going door to door caroling
Whole team in midair
Strangers belly button
etc. etc.
The more and the more embarrassing the better. but keep it PG
I need a good 100 probably

Editor answers:

What is fun to do is find a famous scene from a movie or something, and take a picture of your team doing a reenactment. On one photo/video hunt, we had to find a boat and reenact the scene from the Titanic and scream, “I’m King of the World.”

Find a sandbox and take a picture of your team member crawling across the desert searching for water.

Try taking a picture of your whole team upside down.

Just a few ideas…

Heart Failure Classification

March 7th, 2012 No comments

William asks…

What is the best classification for this abnormal heart?

Gross examination of the heart from an autopsy of a 38-year-old man who was a long-term alcoholic and died from congestive heart failure reveals the heart to be markedly enlarged, banana shaped, and flabby, with are multiple small mural thrombi present. No abnormalities of the cardiac valves are seen. The coronary arteries are within normal limits.

Editor answers:

Alcoholic cardiomyopathy, searched Braunwald’s, Harrison and web couldn’t find other options.

Mark asks…

life expectancy in congestive heart failure?

Could anyone give me an idea of the typical life expectancy of a 60-year old male suffering from dilated cardiomyopathy at level IV of the New York Health Association’s Functional classification scale, as well as COPD. He also has ascites and an enlarged liver, and often wakes up at night, unable to breathe. He is under excellent medical care and takes 11 different medications that have made a great difference, but lately his condition has started to decline markedly. His strength varies from day to day (more and more bedridden most of the day), and nobody has been able to give me an idea of what I should expect in terms of the rest of his life. It is very sad and extremely stressful not knowing at all if he will be alive the next morning or if I can expect to have him with me for another decade.

Editor answers:

1 day to 2 years. My dad just died from the exact same thing at 77. The ascites comes toward the end say 6-8 months. He will also start to loose weight and also his appetite despite the water retention. This is muscle wasting due to lack of blood flow. He may be eligible for hospice enrollment at this stage you should contact them and check into it . Hospice is a Godsend for people going through endstage of illness.
Best Wishes to you.

John asks…

Ejection fraction in dilated cardiomyopathy?

My husband has severe dilated cardiomyopathy with an ejection fraction of 9 percent. Based on the definitions I have read (he won’t let me go with him to see his dr) I believe he is either between level III and level IV or in level IV NYHA classification of dilated cardiomyopathy, defnied as congestive heart failure. He also has severedecreased LV systolic function, pulmonary hypertension and a long list of secondary conditions. He is 60 years old and has an implanted defibrellator and early stages of emphysema. The cause of his cardiomyopathy is unknown; heart disease (but not specifically cardiomyopathy) runs in his family but I personally believe it is caused by long-term cocaine use many years ago. How will his disease progress? Do patients like him typically end up on long-term life support? What is the risk of dementia caused by the heart disease (he is showing signs of it now)? How long can I expect him to live? He had heart valve surgery about 10 years ago and was diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy in the summer of 2008 although he probably had it for years before that. I have not been able to find specific facts anywhere; any answers would be most welcome. Thankyou.

Editor answers:

You can do all the research you like on the web about this but basically when a patient has an ejection fraction that low. The combination of LV dysfunction with pulmonary hypertension the only treatment is a heart lung transplant. He doesn’t sound like a candidate for this procedure. It is a grim picture for him and if you both want everything done, life support will eventually be needed. But it will not cure him and it just prolongs the illness. You need to have a sit down calm discussion to find out what his wishes are in that regard then get it in writing with an advance directive. I am sorry for your situation and pray for your strength and his in dealing with this.

Gym Membership Prices

March 1st, 2012 No comments

James asks…

when is the best time to join a gym membership?

As far as pricing goes I heard waiting until the beginning of the year is the best for pricing since they have alot of deals? Is this true? I want to sign up for a membership at 24 hr fitness, but not sure if I should do it now or wait until Jan. 2007.

Editor answers:

It’s not a good idea to join the gym right now for the following reasons: they might give you the most expensive membership since you are going to be one of their last sales, also some gyms close for about 1 week in December so you might be paying but still not be able to go, and when you are starting to exercise you have to be consistent otherwise you give up, but the best one would be, better deals better prices and a lot of new people like you at the gym to keep you motivated.

David asks…

can someone please tell me the prices of a Virgin active gym membership in the uk?

i am trying to find out the prices of a virgin active gym membership. i cant find it anywhere on the website and when i call up they invite me in for a walk around but i just want to know the prices before anything. does anyone know

Editor answers:

The prices can vary between the gyms, and unfortunately you have to call up to find out the cost – it’s so there sales people can do there thing. Kind of annoying actually.

Michael asks…
