Don’t Wait To Lose Weight: Try These Suggestions

May 1st, 2012 No comments

One way to help tone muscles is to walk with your stomach muscles flexed. Do this as often and for as long as you can. It will improve your posture and tone your muscles.

A great tip for losing weight is to use a multivitamin. It is easy to lose track of your vitamin and nutrient intake when you are tying to lose weight. A multivitamin helps you to replace all of these minerals that you may neglect.

Reward yourself if you’ve been reaching some of your dieting goals, so that your weight loss program will be successful. Treat yourself to a movie, a message or a little trip to your favorite store. You might decide to buy clothes that will show off your new body, which is a double reward, which will give you the positive feeling that your hard work has paid off, and you see it in the mirror.

Keep track of everything you eat and drink when on a weight loss plan. Studies have shown that dieters who keep a record of what they eat achieve greater successes. These conscientious dieters tend to lose twice as much as other dieters.

Investigate MUFA food groups if you aspire to successful weight loss. Monounsaturated fatty acids, MUFA, are foods such as nuts: peanuts, almonds, hazelnuts, oils, such as olive oil, and butters. It is reported that MUFA food choices will aid in weight loss as well as increased health. For best results, incorporate these MUFA-rich foods into your daily diet whenever possible.

If you are cursed with a body that puts on weight at the drop of a hat, keep away from all-you-can-eat buffets. Buffet-style restaurants make you feel like you need to stuff your face in order to make it worth your money. This can make you sick and over time will make you put on pounds and lead to other health issues.

When you begin your diet, establish realistic goals. Just like most other things, when your goals are not realistic, you are setting yourself up for failure. Even if your goal would be reasonable given enough time, expecting rapid weight loss will sabotage it. The best way to make sure you’re being realistic is to set weekly subgoals. Keep the big picture in mind, but don’t focus on it. Just focus on one week at a time instead.

Take note of your daily caloric intake. Do this by counting calories at every meal and tallying it up at the end of the day. Having said this, by consuming the correct amount of calories, you can figure out how much to consume on an every day basis.

Do not keep bigger clothes when you have lost the weight. This will give you a reason to stay up on things and you are less likely to slip up on your diet. Naturally you will notice if your clothes become too snug. If you have no other clothes, you will have to lose the weight!

Many diets out there will not really help you achieve your weight loss goals. Make sure that you sign up for a gym, or at least commit some kind of exercise program. Exercise is a key component of any diet plan. This helps you burn calories quicker while dieting.

When shopping for food, only visit the perimeter of the store. The most nutritious foods, such as fruits and vegetables, meats, cheeses and dairy, are often found along the outside. Normally unhealthy foods such as sugary items that are high calories and don’t give you the beneficial nutrients are located within the aisles. If you avoid the aisles, you can avoid temptation.

You don’t need to lose weight by yourself. If you lack a buddy or family member to diet or exercise with, there are lots of online support groups that can give you much needed encouragement. It might even be possible to find someone in your area.

Trouble Losing Weight? Here Are Some Great Ideas

Exercising with a friend makes the process of weight loss more enjoyable. This will keep you motivated and it will be fun to have someone to talk to. The added competition and fun you get by working out with a friend can really increase the effectiveness of your workout!

During each meal, pause for a few minutes. This will give your body a chance to let you know if it is full! Think about stopping halfway through. Put down your fork for a moment and consider how hungry you really are. Then, decide how much more of your meal you really need to eat to feel satisfied.

Skipping meals is something that should be avoided in your goal to eat better. When you miss eating meals you are not going to lose weight; your body will enter survival mode and hang onto every scrap of nutrient it can instead. Even if you’re not hungry, try and eat something at least three times per day.

A major component of successful weight loss is watching your portion sizes. A rule of thumb that you can use is that it is a good idea to eat just three ounces of poultry, meat, or fish. This amount can fit in your palm. Studies have shown people who use portion control lose more weight.

Clench your back and stomach muscles as you walk, and make an effort to maintain it as long as you can. If you notice they are relaxed, tighten them up again. Not only will this improve your posture, but it will help tone the muscles you use to stand up straight – including your bottom!

A great way to help you lose weight is to suck on some ice when you’re feeling the urge to snack or eat junk food. This trick works well because the desire to eat is often sated just by having some sort of foodstuff in your mouth.

If you are having trouble sticking to a strict diet, allow your self to make healthy substitutions. Take a look at recipes you use often, and see where you can eliminate unwanted fat and calories. Use vegetable oil spread as opposed to butter. Substitute plain, fat-free yogurt for sour cream. You should not have lose your favorite foods entirely, just make changes to them.

If you seem to have plateaued in your weight loss journey and cannot lose additional pounds, you may want to start working out even harder. Your body will adjust to the work outs you are doing, and if you stay at the same level they will not be as effective are they were in the beginning.

You can still eat your favorite foods while losing weight as long as you pick the versions with less calories. Many people abandon their dieting efforts because they are hungry and crave certain foods. In many cases, eating low-calorie versions of the foods you like most will allow you to enjoy these foods while still losing weight in the process.

Almost everyone enjoys the taste of french fries. Unfortunately, they cause problems for many people who are trying to lose weight. If you must have french fries, try to bake them. Cut up some potatoes into half-inch fries. Then, toss them in a big bowl with one tablespoon of oil, sprinkle a little salt, pepper, and rosemary to add flavor, and then bake them in one layer at a temperature of 400 degrees for half an hour. Turn the fries over with a spatula and continue baking for about 10 minutes. They are good eaten with ketchup and are lower in fat, you will not even think about them being not being fried. This great “French Bakes” recipe is courtesy of Laurel’s Kitchen cookbook.

As you can see by now, permanent lifestyle changes result in weight loss. By following the tips presented here, you will have a step-by-step guideline to weight loss that will also provide you the ability and motivation to keep the weight off. Losing weight requires for you to make changes to the way you live your life. This article can help you whenever you begin to doubt yourself.

Stomach Muscles

Helen asks…

What work out is best to tone your stomach muscles?

I have been trying to tone up my stomach muscles but it’s like whatever I do I don’t get the results I am wanting…

Editor answers:

If you want to tone any muscle, you’d have to lift light weight with high reps of 10-20. Alternatively there are exercises you can do with exercise bands, or your own body weight. For toning stomach muscles, I’d recommend performing various ab exercises such as the simple crunch, a toe touch, jackknife, russian twist, etc (link to descriptions and pictures of these exercises in the “sources” below). I’d perform some ab exercises 15-20 minutes every other day, giving your abs a day to rest in between the days. Doing this would give your abs a more toned look.

Joseph asks…

How do I strengthen my stomach muscles?

I am a dancer and need to strengthen my stomach muscles a bunch! How can I do this? Any exercises that actually work?

Lisa asks…

Why do I keep losing my stomach muscles?

I do circuit training every day, and have been doing so for a while. I developed good stomach muscles by doing situps and crunches, but now it seems that the more CT I do, the more of this muscle I lose!
Can anybody tell me why I am losing it?! And what should I do to get the muscle and then keep it?

Editor answers:

Your problem is diet.

Ct training burns tremendous amounts of calories and if your not eating right, the first source of energy your body will goto will be muscles (including stomach muscles) try eating lightly before your workout and then some protein immediately after. If you want to get serious, then google creatin and research all the benfits. If you dont want to get into supplementation, just make a protein shake and you’ll be fine. Just remember to drink it after your workout and something before so the muscles your ct training targets doesnt cannibalize your abs.

Stomach Muscles Sore

January 22nd, 2012 No comments

Paul asks…

I have had a cough for a couple of days and my stomach muscles are really sore. Suggestions to ease the pain?

I do not want to take any medications please. Thanks!

Editor answers:

Stop the cough. Take about 10 mint leaves. Put it in a small bowl, add half a teacup of water and put it in a steamer for about 20 mins to get the mint extract. Drink it twice a day
mint is a great cure for bronchitis. Natural
add some sugar to make it sweet if you want. Your cough should be gone in 3 days

Lizzie asks…

My girl friend asked me Do sore muscles and stomach swelling mean your pregnant?

I don’t think she is, considering she had her period. But, I said I’d try and find out.

Editor answers:

If she stops having her periods then seek medical advice

Laura asks…

I have really sore stomach muscles, how to cure them..?

I did 50 crunches yesterday and today when I walk, lay on my stomach, or even laughing I can feel the soreness lol

How can I cure this?

Editor answers:

Your muscles are hurting from the crunches as you haven’t used those same muscles alot lately, and the muscles got a good workout. There’s nothing you can really do to ease the pain except wait a couple days. You can try putting some ice on it, or have a hot bath or shower to relax the muscles. Hope it works out! :)

Lose Belly Fat Diet

December 25th, 2011 No comments

Maria asks…

what’s the best way for a 44 year old male to lose belly fat?

I know stop eating crap – well I’m going on a “nearly” vegetarian diet – - – only fish and poultry – nothing fried – very low fat diet – no dairy products

I’m riding a bike about 45 minutes a day – each morning and again in the evening

Any other ideas?
I don’t drink beer – however I’ve been known to have a margarita on vacation or say (once or twice a month) – - – not an alcohol drinker – none in my house!

Editor answers:

It sounds like you’re doing the right things. Due to our “American Diet” many of us develop insulin resistance (IR). I recently read a statistic that as many as 3/4 of adults will have some degree of IR!!!!!!!!! That seems high and I have not asked my doc about it yet, but I will. The symptoms of IR include:
Fatigue, belly fat, brain fog, high BP, insomnia, hypoglycemia, depression, and other stuff.
IR can be checked with blood tests: 12-14 hour fast; followed by a glucose challenge (drink 75 grams of sugar); then have glucose and insulin levels checked while fasting, then one hour and two hours after glucose challenge.
IR can be REVERSED with diet and exercise and also medication if needed. Unchecked IR will turn into type 2 diabetes. So, if you are “overweight” and even if you are not overweight, have your doc check your IR status. Controlling IR should resolve belly fat issues. Keep in mind, even “skinny” people can be IR. It’s genetic and our American diet makes it worse.

David asks…

How do I lose my belly fat? I’ve been going to the gym and watching my diet…?

I have joined my local gym about 3 weeks ago, and I currently use the elliptical machine (30-40 min)and the stationary bike (about 20 min) 3-4 times a week. I also do crunches. What else can I be doing to get rid of the pesky spare-tire around my waist?

I also have been watching my sugar and caloric intake.

Editor answers:

Dean is on the right track, to lose belly fat, you dont just work out the stomach muscles…. You need to kick up cardio to the next level and jog/run, not on a treadmill, but on the road. The tread mill is a great way to get started, but when running on a treadmill the road is moving for you, you just pick up your feet and keep pace, on the road, you have to push yourself forwards…..
Work out other parts of the body so your abs have time to rest and repair….be sure you take in little fat and a good amount of protein, not TOO much protein, but just over a normal daily portion….

William asks…

i’ve heard of the lemonade diet where you can lose belly fat i was wondering how much lemon juice should you

put in an 8 oz cup of water per serving to lose weight

Editor answers:

Lemonade (or lemon juice in water) will NOT make you lose belly fat.

Eat less, exercise more. The ONLY way.
